My name is Seth Barrasso and I am a Sodexo dietetic intern from Coventry, Rhode Island. My experience so far in my dietetic internship through Sodexo has been fulfilling since the first day of orientation in Gaithersburg, Maryland all the way through to my concentration in critical care. Since day 1 I knew I made the right choice, meeting so many great people and making connections right away. I honestly did not know what to expect from orientation, but it turned out to be an amazing week to learn and prepare for the internship. I also made a lot of great connections, whom I still talk to and discuss the internship with.
Throughout my internship, I learned so much with the help of my preceptors, and even got an interest in the critical care setting thanks to my preceptor Courtney who inspired me through her knowledge in nutrition support and how she challenged me daily. Through Sodexo’s community rotation, I was able to pick many different opportunities to strengthen my skills and get a wider background. I was able to work in the outpatient setting with a feeding team for pediatrics consisting of an RD, SLP and physical therapist, time with a college campus dietitian, time with a sports dietitian where I was able to utilize emerging technology, a day with our Abbott nutrition rep, and soon to be spending time at a dialysis center. With my concentration in critical care, I am looking forward to spending more time with the ICU doctor, as well as one of the respiratory therapists to gain more insight on nutrition support in the critical care setting.
Overall, my favorite part about this internship was the opportunities it gave me. I was able to gain so much different varied experience, as well as make so many connections that will propel me into my future career.
