Hello, everyone!

My name is Hyori Shin, and I am a Sodexo dietetic intern in Pennsylvania. I started my internship in February, and currently, I am in the middle of my clinical rotation after completing food service management and patient service rotations. Time flies!

As I acquired much information and motivation from others' accomplishments before my internship, I wish my story would also help someone who might be in need.

In my FSM rotation, I worked at a college dining hall. Creativity was crucial in this rotation, as I was mainly devoted to planning food-related events for students. One of my projects was the "No Food Waste Campaign." I prepared educational materials, marketing collaterals, and Instagram feeds to promote food waste reduction. During such processes, I could learn various perspectives on the subject since most of the work had to be done by interdisciplinary collaboration. Thanks to my team members' assistance and the students' participation, the project was successfully ended. I also liked the fact that my performance was immediately evaluated and visible to the stakeholders. Constructive feedback always made me feel I can keep growing as a dietitian.

My second rotation was patient services in a hospital. I could learn how the ordered diets were prepared and delivered to patients from the kitchen. Communicating with patients was also a critical task in this rotation. During the satisfaction survey, I had opportunities to find out what patients actually think about their therapeutic diets. This rotation was a perfect starting point for the clinical rotation.

The last one is the clinical rotation that I am currently working on. This rotation is my favorite so far, as I enjoy reviewing patient charts, figuring out the problems, and thinking critically to develop the best nutrition care plans for my patients. Also, the hospital is a fast-paced and dynamic environment, which I love. I am still on the learning curve and very excited to continue to learn for the rest of my rotation.
