Program Costs
Estimated costs for the current  internship year are

Tuition   $11,750
​
A payment of $3000 is due within 30 days after the match or acceptance as a preselect candidate with the balance due one month prior to orientation.
​
​Application Fee
$50 applying to one Region $75 applying to two or more Regions.

​
The Sodexo Dietetic Internship only accepts personal checks, cashier's checks, or money orders as forms of payment for tuition and application fees. We do not accept credit cards, Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, or other forms of online payments.

Orientation Fee   $440
​
Covers daily meal costs for breakfast and lunch during orientation week, as well as additional materials.  This fee is only in effect for an on-site orientation.  If the COVID-19 pandemic necessitates an online virtual orientation, this fee is not paid. See orientation info for updates. 
​
Orientation Travel and Lodging   $500 - $1000
This will vary depending on travel to orientation and lodging choices. To save on lodging cost it is recommended that interns share a hotel room. If the COVID-19 pandemic necessitates an online virtual orientation, you will not incur this expense. See orientation info for updates.
​
Criminal Background Check   $25 - $75 average
This is dependent on the state or states lived in, the number of addresses and number of names. It can be as high as $300. Additional background checks may need to be conducted specifically for supervised practice sties.

Drug Screen   $10 - $250
This cost varies depending on health insurance coverage.
​
Lab Coats or Scrubs and PPE   $50-$250
This cost varies depending on individual hospital requirements.

Textbooks & Supplies   $200-$300

Transportation/Parking   Free - $100
The internship does not cover travel costs. These costs will vary geographically.

Computer and MS office or compatible applications.

Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Membership   $58
for Student Membership. Optional to join but highly recommended.

Dietetic Practice Group Membership   $25 to $40
Cost varies, optional to join.

Pre-program Physical Exam and Medical Insurance   Variable
This is dependent on insurance coverage. Health insurance coverage is mandatory.

Hospital on-boarding costs    $75 to $350 varies
Specific supervised practice sites have different on-boarding requirements before placement may begin
  • Criminal Background Check: additional background check may need to be conducted within 30 days of starting the rotation
  • Drug Screen:  additional drug screen may need to be conducted 14 – 30 days prior to starting the rotation
  • COVID – 19 screen:   COVID screen may need to be conducted 7 – 14 days prior to starting the rotation. Plan ahead, results may take 3 – 6 days to be received; consider rapid test when available
  • Hospital on-boarding paper work process:  there may be a fee for hospital to process required on-boarding paperwork and completing on-line orientation materials.

​Financial Aid
Financial aid / student loans are available only to those interns who have been accepted into the University of Rhode Island MS degree, as well as completing the internship supervised practice.  MS interns can borrow over $40,000 from University of Rhode Island financial aid department.  The funds can be used to cover the costs of the internship tuition, URI tuition, and some living expenses.  Financial aid is not available to those interns completing only the internship portion of the program. 
If interns have student loans from prior to admission to the internship, a loan forbearance may be available for interns completing the internship supervised practice.  A loan deferment may be available for those interns completing the MS degree from University of Rhode Island, as well as the internship supervised practice.

For students seeking to pursue the combined
Masters of Nutritional Sciences - RD/RDN program
Masters Program at University of Rhode Island (online):
$16,000 for the MS portion only.  (Tuition plus application and registration fees).

The tuition and fees for the MS program are in addition to those listed above for the internship.
