My name is Tessa Mirjafary and I am at the Baltimore/Washington D.C. location. I just finished my clinical rotation at Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC), and I am also getting my master’s degree through the University of Rhode Island. I am excited to be just one month away from finishing the internship. However, I am going to miss all of the interns and dietitians that I have had the pleasure of working with!
I am so grateful for the other interns at the Baltimore/D.C. location because I feel as though we have bonded more than anyone expected. The process of becoming a registered dietitian is unique and typically hard for others to understand unless they are in the profession. Whenever I am feeling overwhelmed or want to talk about something in the internship, I am always grateful to have the other interns as an outlet. We make plans to hang out and some interns even offered to let me stay at their place when I went to FNCE, because my commute would have been very long if I had to drive back to Baltimore every night. As you can see in my picture, another intern, Kelsey, and I had a lot of fun at FNCE! I truly can’t imagine having any other experience other than my Sodexo one.
Although it is going to be hard to transition into the real world without the direct support of my fellow interns, I believe the harder transition will be leaving the dietitians at GBMC. For the past seven months, I have worked alongside the dietitians at GBMC and acquired so much information about the ins and outs of what a dietitian’s job entails. They have taught me just about everything I know when it comes to clinical nutrition and have been so patient with me along the way. Their camaraderie is unmatched and it is going to feel unusual to not have the support of these coworkers, wanting to teach me and see me excel. Although I know they have instilled the knowledge and skill set necessary to thrive in this profession, I cant help but have a bittersweet feeling of parting with people who have grown to mean so much to me. Although I may not be an intern at GBMC anymore, I know I will always be able to pop in and say hi.
I am so appreciative of the Sodexo internship because it has taught me everything I know and provided me with relationships that mean so much to me. Although I am excited about the approaching opportunity for me to become a registered dietitian, it is going to be hard to leave my friends who I’ve established such strong relationships with.
