Hard work and perseverance may sound like a cliché, but it holds merit when discussing the Sodexo Dietetic Internship. Throughout this experience I received many great learning opportunities such that I became more knowledgeable about the profession and about myself. The internship allows you time to learn from other professionals who are passionate about many different avenues of dietetics. As an intern I have been exposed to many great speakers and the opportunity to learn from others has been truly enlightening.
The internship offers you the chance to focus your concentration on a specific topic; I have chosen leadership as my concentration. As I continue to learn about what my true passions are, and where my leadership skills may take me, I am using this time to learn as much as I can about the profession. One of the most challenging and yet rewording experiences of this internship was the day of our professional research presentations (PRP).
For months we spent time researching a topic we chose pertaining to our concentration. The topic I focused my time on was “The Future of Dietetics.” The responsibility was to research the topic then present it to a group of dietetic professionals who will obtain continuing education credits. Talk about a nerve-racking experience. It was a nice break during the internship to become an expert on a specific topic and teach others. The assignment was challenging but very rewarding, I learned great skills being able to research a serious topic and present to a large group of professionals.
The internship has many once in a lifetime experiences to offer and you won’t want to miss out on any of them! Continue to work hard and learn something new; there is a light at the end of the tunnel and the RD credential will be worth it!
