Gaining a Competitive Edge through Supervised Practice
My name is Natalie Black. I am a Sodexo Distance Dietetic Intern and I completed my core clinical and Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) concentration at Riverside Community Hospital in Riverside, California. My Sodexo dietetic internship experience has been challenging and enjoyable. I have been surrounded by numerous knowledgeable, helpful professionals who take pride in teaching interns and imparting their knowledge of dietetics. One advantage of the Sodexo Dietetic Internships experience is the concentration rotation, which facilitates development of skills in areas of interest. My chosen concentration was medical nutrition therapy; with this option I spent an additional 232 hours at my clinical site focusing on fluid and electrolytes balance. The additional time spent in a clinical setting allowed me to improve my skills and feel confident in my work. The program competencies have allowed me to shadow the interdisciplinary team, including speech and language pathologists, respiratory therapists, and wound care nurses and discuss the impact proper nutrition has on multiple aspects of health. Whether you choose MNT, leadership, wellness, or any of the eight concentrations, the Sodexo Dietetic Internships program will provide you with the opportunity to develop professionally and place you at a greater competitive edge in various aspects of dietetics. I suggest potential applicants look into the program concentration options and strongly consider the networking possibilities that may arise from the Sodexo experience.
