Encouraging Mindful Cooking and Eating at Home
Do you ever think cooking at home is work? What about cooking healthier foods? Not having the right equipment, the right ingredients, or the preparation and clean-up time is enough to make many of us look for a more convenient, more expensive choice!
As a Sodexo Dietetic Intern completing a culinary concentration, I recently hosted a cooking demonstration for the café patrons at my clinical rotation site, Presence Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Last year, the cafe was remodeled and featured a Mindful by Sodexo® area, Sodexo’s platform for healthy eating. I chose a Mindful recipe as an opportunity to promote healthy eating at home, and at work. The recipe, home cooking techniques flyer, and samples were available to patrons during lunch.
Many observers expressed to me that they do not cook at home as much as they would like. It was rewarding to highlight one guest in particular. He brought his wife back to verbalize that they have been wanting to eat well for a while, but did not know where to begin. He saw how easy and simple the ingredients and method were, and he had a light-bulb moment.
I look forward to more experiences like this one during my internship and as a Registered Dietitian! To learn more about Mindful by Sodexo® and how you can create delicious healthy meals at home, I encourage you to check out mindful.sodexo.com.
