As I transition into my advanced clinical rotation I look back over the experiences that I have had and how much I have learned. I feel extremely lucky to be at a clinical site that I love. All of the RD’s are extremely helpful and happily answer any questions that I have. Every week I work with a different RD in their specialty area. I feel prepared for each disease state with the Sodexo assignments. Each week the RD that I am working with gives me a little homework over the weekend and I start the week with a pretest and end the week with a post test. It is helpful to know exactly what my clinical site expects of me.
In addition to my disease specific rotations I have been able to shadow the pharmacist, wound care nurses, and speech. I was able to watch the TPN that I ordered for a critically ill patient being mixed. I observed a barium swallow study for a patient who was aspirating with thin liquids and I got to observe a wound care nurse place a wound VAC on a patient who had four toes removed as a result of diabetes.
I feel that the RD’s at United want to give me the best experience possible. I am extremely thankful for my experiences and excited to complete my MNT concentration at United as well.
