Hello! My name is Jake Nemeroff and I am an intern from region 8. I currently live in Fort Wayne, IN. I have finished my food service rotation and am currently about 50% through my community rotation. I am grateful to be a part of this internship as my experience with my directors and the program layout has been nothing short of excellent. In my food service rotation, I got the opportunity to talk to patients as well as work closely with dietitians and food service staff. Currently, in my community rotation, I have had some amazing experiences. I had the opportunity to work at my local food bank and help not only educate the shoppers on nutrition but altogether aid in the service of those who are in need in my community. I have also had amazing experiences at the current nursing home I am at. I have counseled residents, worked closely with the nutritionist on staff and even had the opportunity to make a Santa Sleigh for a mock Macy’s day parade for the residents. Due to covid-19, the opportunity to even leave their rooms has been very limited, so it has been a challenge to entertain and bring joy to the residents’ lives while they are under these health-oriented restrictions.

So far, I have enjoyed every minute of this internship. The relationships I have built, things I have learned, and projects I have been a part of have changed/educated me as much as I feel it has for the employees I have worked alongside. Every day brings something new and exciting as well as brings me one step closer to my goal of becoming a registered dietitian. I look forward to what is to come and for the transition from this internship into a career where I can make the world healthier and happier!
