Apps; they’re everywhere.  We use them to catch rides, pay each other for dinner and now Sodexo uses them for nutritionals!  During my recent wellness rotation with Sodexo Regional Wellness Director, Kate Giere, I was able to dive into the latest and most up-to-date menu and nutrition app used by Sodexo.

Bite is used in all Sodexo cafés and delivers news and special promotions to its users. Bite is fully integrated with Sodexo’s menu management system (SMG/FMS), does not rely on rerouting to other menu sites, and provides a platform to fast-track the role digital apps will play in serving our patrons.  What does that mean to us?  Using an app like Bite can help drive consumer engagement and help influence purchasing behaviors and sales!

How does it work?  Users can search for a location, input a menu code or enable location services for nearby Sodexo café locations.  Once a Sodexo café is selected, users search by meal service and view all items available as well as time the meal service is being served or search for individual menu items.   Users can rate café experiences, rank menu items and save favorites to set alerts for when favorites are available again!  Deal alerts, ingredients and calorie counts are also among the features available.

I don’t know about you, but I tend to look at restaurant menus and reviews before ordering.  This app is perfect for the busy student, hospital or corporate employee who wants to peak at the menu before heading down to the Sodexo café and view the daily offerings.  Another neat feature the app provides is the ease of looking up nutritionals.  While in the cafeteria, each action station has an entrée identification card with a bar code.  Users simply scan the barcode via Bite to display the nutrition information and the data can even sync with your MyFitnessPal app! Talk about convenient! There’s even conversation about building an on-the-go feature into the app, letting users order from anywhere and pick up their personal order in the Sodexo café. “The more you know, the better it tastes,” – Bite.
