Did you know Sodexo has their very own weight management program? CORE4 was developed by Sodexo registered dietitians and utilizes evidence- based research and guidelines from The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) as well as other national organizations. The “4” of Core4 comes from incorporating 4 necessities when it comes to weight management; eating, exercise, education, and energy. The program starts with an appointment with a Registered Dietitian and is followed by 11 weekly, 1-hour group sessions.

I introduced the idea of Core4 to my preceptors at P&G Gillette and it became my main leadership rotation project. With it, I was able to fulfill all the goals my preceptor, Sky, put forth for me including improve the quality of life for P&G and Sodexo employees, leave a legacy project, and improve the culture between Sodexo and P&G. I started sign-ups September 11th and 23 P&G employees enrolled within 7 days. John, Sodexo GM, decided he would cover the cost of Sodexo employees that wanted to participate, which added another 10 participants. I was amazed with how fast Core4 successfully all came together. Even the program itself suggests 3-5 months preparation before the first session but with the help of my preceptors I did it in one month.

September 27th was the first session and I remember being very nervous on the days leading up to it. I had only ever presented to fellow students that were my age and most likely as worried for themselves when it was their turn as I was when presenting. Then here I was, a new graduate, about to present and teach corporate professionals about nutrition and weight management. I was delighted to find that these people wanted to help me with my confidence in presenting as much as I wanted to help them reach their goals. I learned quickly that presenting isn’t just about providing people with the information on the power point slides. It is about having meaningful discussions, using my experiences to enhance the information, and allowing participants to share their own stories.

Fast forward to week 11, the participants had their final measurements taken. The results were impressive showing 24 out of 31 (77%) participants lost an average of 7 lbs. each and the range was from .5 lbs. to 17.6 lbs. Total weight loss for 24 participants was 167 lbs.! Below are testimonials from a few participants.

Hey Gabby,
I’d like to thank you for leading the way to a new transformation in my life. This was the first group program I have ever tried. Through the core 4 program I was able to break through a barrier that has been in my way for at least the last 8 years. Finally, something clicked between the Core 4 program and the dedicated staff at the fitness center to get me well on the way of achieving the goals I have set for myself.
Thanks again,
Jim Pedretti

I have just completed my 12- week Core4 training.
I am getting close to my goal weight, exercising more often and now have great strategies to manage my appetite, exercise more often and make wise food choices.
I have more energy at work and at home.
The program is very rational and does not endorse any fads, supplements or radical weight loss and exercise programs. It relies and a great app that counts calories and arms one with knowledge of one’s choices at all time.
Gabby, Gabrielle Mcdonough, who runs the program is energetic, very passionate about what she teaches, but most importantly she has a sound knowledge of food choices that maximize healthy living. She is also non-judgmental especially if you have a bad weight week!
The books that come with the course are very well written, easy to read and offer sound, non-controversial advice. In addition, each class comes with a PowerPoint deck outlining the topic of the week ranging for Carbohydrates and fats to Vitamins and supplements and to sleep and stress.
I met with a dietitian who worked with me to get my calorie intake correct and gave me great tips on diet choice. I also was assigned a great program at the gym that easily fits into my schedule and lifestyle.
I strongly endorse the Core4 program and encourage everyone who needs help with better food choices and exercise.
