Danielle Dwyer - Distance Option

9/20/2018

Hi, everyone! My name is Danielle Dwyer and I am a Sodexo dietetic intern in the distance program. I have completed four rotations: Food Service Management, Wellness, Patient Services, and Long Term Care. Each experience has been full of incredible opportunities, but one of the best moments so far was getting the chance to run a “Smoothie Bike” demo with the regional dietitian at CarMax Headquarters in Richmond, Virginia.

For those who don’t know, a smoothie bike gives participants a chance to blend their own smoothie simply by pedaling! This interactive demo invited employees to get a little exercise in during their lunch break and gave us a chance to talk about Mindful by Sodexo. The smoothie recipe we used was Mindful and consisted of only four ingredients: frozen berries, frozen bananas, honey, and almond milk. Yum!

In addition to the demo, we also handed out free samples and talked with employees about healthy recipes and what it means to be mindful. The event was a hit; everyone had a ton of fun watching and cheering on fellow employees. Because the event was interactive and engaging, our audience was receptive to our main point: eating mindful doesn’t have to be boring or taste bad! In fact, eating mindfully can be fun and full of both flavor AND nutrients.

I was pretty nervous to lead such a large event, but in the end, I learned so much because I was willing to get out of my comfort zone and have FUN with it! So that’s my advice for you: even if you are nervous about an event/presentation/opportunity, give it your all and get out of that comfort zone, because that is where the growth happens!
