Christopher Zelno - Allentown Campus

Hello everyone, my name is Christopher Zelno and I’m a dietetic intern for Sodexo from the Allentown campus. I just recently finished my Advanced Clinical rotation, which I completed at St. Luke’s Hospital Miners Campus. I really enjoyed the time I spent throughout all of my clinical rotations, as I’ve been able to learn something new just about every single day whether it’s related to dealing with patients directly, or how to properly chart and document an interaction with a patient after seeing them.

March was National Nutrition Month, and I was responsible for putting together a small stand for an afternoon at the hospital highlighting a food topic of my choice. Because the slogan from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics celebrating National Nutrition Month was to “Go Further with Food”, I decided to base my informational stand on the comparison of different foods that contained the same amount of calories. I used foods like bananas, grapes, and carrots and compared them to foods such as candy, cookies, and pastries to show the enormous difference in the nutrition profile of the various items. By choosing to eat right, each individual may have more energy, improve their overall health, and, perhaps most importantly, feel better about themselves; they can go further with their food choices. As we've entered the month of April, it is almost time for Farmers Markets to start popping up to proudly display their fresh fruits and vegetables. It’s important to remind all those we encounter to take advantage of their local Farmers Market by shopping fresh and shopping locally whenever possible.
