Hello all! My name is Caitlyn Talbert, and this week I just wrapped up my food service rotation at Cargill in Wayzata, MN. Those six weeks flew by in a flash, but it was amazing to be a part of that community and feel all of that wonderful support in such a short amount of time. I have had plenty of jobs within food service, but management was a very new experience for me! There, I was able to learn how to delegate and effectively communicate in a way I never had before. Out of all of the objectives/projects assigned, the wellness project was the one that provided me with the largest opportunity for growth. Cargill is a unique account that allows Sodexo to manage their company store, which offers Cargill specific commodities such as meat, poultry and chocolates. For my wellness project, I decided to utilize Sodexo’s “Tasty Tuesday” template to combine a lean, low-sodium ground turkey that fit Sodexo’s mindful guidelines using a Cargill product. To ensure this sampling event’s success, I needed to manage kitchen staff, work with the catering team and printing and marketing center, as well as the shop’s employees. There were so many moving parts, and it was a bit chaotic at times, but it all turned out great. It was truly a group effort, and I loved the chance to exercise new skills! Check out the recipe I adapted, and feel free to try it at home—it’s pretty delicious! J
