Hello everyone! My name is Bridget Isaacs. I am currently a dietetic intern at Sodexo’s New Bedford site am completing most of my rotations in the Boston, MA area. I have finished both my food service management and clinical rotations and just started rotations in my concentration, wellness. I hope to get the opportunity to gain experience in all areas of health and wellness to help direct my career path once I graduate from my internship in September!

My first wellness rotation was spent with New England’s Corporate Wellness Dietitian. It was very interesting to get a glimpse into the corporate world in regard to nutrition and wellness. I was able to interact with the employees of a number of different corporate clients. One day the RD and I served at a Guacamole Bar and got to educate the employees about heart healthy fats. The next day, I helped run Wellness Jeopardy in a client's cafe. It was a great experience being able to interact with people. The Jeopardy questions opened the door to more nutrition-related questions and discussions.

One area of the Wellness Concentration that has challenged me and forced me to grow as a future RD is the cooking demonstration requirement. I have had the opportunity to assist in two, and lead one cooking demo on my own. The three cooking demos have been part of a plant-based series at the Needham Council on Aging. We have made a coconut curry soup, veggie spring rolls, and beet hummus. It is out of my comfort zone to speak in front of a group of people, let alone while using a knife! I’ve enjoyed spending time with the elderly population at the Needham Council on Aging; they are so engaged in the cooking demos and always have a million questions. The demos have forced me to think on my feet and put my knowledge to the test. Although cooking demos have made me step outside of my comfort zone, I am grateful for this experience as it is an important skill to have for my future career!
