
Hi everyone! My name is Andrew Dobbins and I’m a Sodexo Dietetic Intern at the Allentown campus. I completed my clinical rotations and Medical Nutrition Therapy concentration at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, PA. In the past 8 months, I have grown from not being able to find my way around the hospital, to assessing and treating a diverse population of patients with a wide range of complications. With the countless opportunities afforded to me by being a Sodexo dietetic intern, I was able to work in a burn unit, a trauma unit, observe multiple bariatric surgeries, and complete staff relief days in the intensive care unit. I also worked at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) with their outpatient gastrointestinal dietitian, feeding team, and presented at elementary schools, hospitals, universities, and senior centers.
During National Nutrition Month, my Clinical Nutrition Manager and I set up a table each week to promote the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans with this year’s theme, Savor the Flavor of Eating Right. We educated administrators, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals about the changes to the Dietary Guidelines and discussed the health benefits of spices. In the following weeks, many people stopped me while on the patient floors to ask questions or tell me that we provided them with information that they used to start making changes in their own diets.
I will soon be moving on to complete my food service management rotation at GlaxoSmithKline pharmaceuticals. All of my experiences with Sodexo have helped me to become a more confident, well rounded person and future RD!
