Hello everyone! My name is Amanda Ciprich. I am currently interning at Sodexo Dietetic Internship’s Allentown campus with an emphasis in diabetes. As an individual with type one diabetes, every day is a balancing act to maintain the highs and lows of my blood glucose levels. Since my diagnosis, I have developed a passion for nutrition and wellness. I have learned a lot about self-discipline, determination, and courage through my experiences with diabetes. Since diabetes will always be a part of my life, I am excited to have the opportunity to combine my knowledge of the disease with my passion for helping others in a professional environment. I am thankful to be a part of Sodexo Dietetic Internship’s as a diabetes intern because I have been able to enhance my understanding of diabetes by traveling to different healthcare facilities and events.
So far throughout my concentration hours, I have been able to observe multiple insulin pump start-up sessions and insulin-training workshops at Helwig Health and Diabetes Center apart of the Lehigh Valley Health Network. I assisted in training healthcare workers on proper insulin-injection techniques and the pathophysiology of diabetes medications. I was also able to observe an interdisciplinary approach to out-patient counseling at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Here I worked along side a registered dietitian, nurse practitioner, pharmacist, and medical doctor to counsel individuals with diabetes and come to a consensus on an intervention. Furthermore, I worked alongside RN/MDs to complete diabetes-screening risks within the local community. I counseled patients on lowing their risk of diabetes through their diet and cooking techniques that I have found useful. Currently, I have only completed a quarter of my concentration rotation hours. I have already learned and experienced so much and I am looking forward to what other experiences I will have within the next upcoming months!
