Hi everyone! My name is Gabriela Isaza and I am a part of the New York Campus with Sodexo. I was recently at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, CT and just finished my advanced clinical rotation. I started in the burn unit at Bridgeport Hospital where I was able to nutritionally intervene with patients presenting with serious burns. It was incredible to see how high their energy needs are for healing! For several week I had been in the Medical ICU and learned so much from my preceptor. It was so exciting to be in the mix of a wide range of health care professionals. I am constantly working along side nurses, speech language pathologists, respiratory therapists, residents, and pharmacists. I have been able to stand in for different procedures such as barium swallow studies, intubations, and naso-gastric tube placements. It is an unbelievable experience to be able to apply my knowledge in a clinical setting. I have learned about so many different disease states and how to nutritionally assess, diagnose, and intervene with each one. The dietitians at Bridgeport hospital and the directors of Sodexo have been nothing but supportive. Everyone is constantly trying to expose me to new educational material. Time is flying by and I cannot believe we are already in 2017! I am beyond excited to begin my new year with a renal rotation at an outpatient dialysis center this month!
