Hello fellow interns and soon to be RDs! I write this post with great excitement as I begin my final rotation of the internship—community. My passion is sports nutrition and I wanted to find a way to gain more experience in this field, so I decided to fit it into my community rotation. I feel incredibly grateful to have been chosen for the Sodexo DI, because the directors encourage us to think outside of the box with our rotation choices to ensure we gain the most out of the internship. It is important for us to spend time in a variety of settings to ultimately guide us in the right direction for our future careers, and that means we have the right to find rotations we are most interested in. I don’t know many other interns who have been able to fulfill their community hours at a professional sports organization, but I am so thankful our directors support me in my passion to do so. I am completing my Community Adult, Children and Choice hours with the Los Angeles Galaxy men’s professional soccer organization as a sports nutrition intern under the program’s Sports RD. She is the only full-time dietitian in the entire MLS, and oversees the professional team, semi-professional team and the Academy program (12-18 year old boys teams who attend school and train on campus similar to a collegiate program). I am lucky enough to assist her with all of these teams and look forward to the experience ahead. I encourage all interns to think outside of the box with rotation ideas and have the courage to put yourself out there. I never imagined I’d be interning at my dream job, but it wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t ask!
