It has been a great journey of learning experiences during my time with Sodexo Dietetic Internships – Allentown Campus. I recently completed my Food Service Management rotation at Reformed Church Home, Old Bridge, NJ. My preceptor not only provided me with variety of learning experiences but also trusted me with a number of tasks like conducting weekly inventory, monitoring refrigerator temperatures and safety of food in the refrigerator (whether the food was wrapped properly and labelled with date) and supervising meal service.
During my rotation, I had the opportunity to organize a wellness event for the facility; I organized a brunch for assisted living residents. I took the initiative for the event preparation and execution and was assisted by my preceptors and kitchen staff. On the day of the event, I had to make sure that all menu items were ready on time, decorations were done and tables setup so that we could welcome our residents for the Brunch. The success of this event has enhanced my managerial and organizational skills. I also have more confidence in the possibility of organizing similar events in future.
