General Information
TUITION:
$6,000 (subject to change). One half of the tuition
is due upon
acceptance to the program
and the other half prior to the
start of the program. Financial aid is not available for this
program at this time, but interns do have the option of working part time. ORIENTATION AND CLASS WEEK: Interns are responsible for transportation, housing and food during orientation and class week. Orientation (dubbed RD Camp by the class of 2004) is held in New Hampshire and for the next class will be held at Oliver Lodge in Meredith, New Hampshire September 18 through September 25, 2005. The cost for all lodging and food for this 8-day orientation is $600 per intern. Interns will share rooms and cooking detail in order to keep the expense down. All interns will be required to stay at the lodge and attendance at orientation is mandatory. Transportation to the Lodge is the responsibility of each intern and cost will vary depending on where the intern is coming from.
TRANSPORTATION: Interns are responsible for means and cost of all transportation. This will vary depending on how far the intern lives from the rotation sites. Interns are liable for safety in travel to and from assigned areas. Some facilities provide free parking, but interns may have to pay for parking at some rotation sites. HOUSING: Interns are responsible for providing their own housing and costs will vary depending on location. Every effort will be made to place interns in practice sites convenient to where they live as requested. MEALS: Interns are responsible for supplying their own meals while on duty. Interns should follow the policies of the facilities in which they are located. Some facilities provide reduced cost or free meals for employees. DRESS: Interns are required to adhere to the practice facilities' dress codes, which usually includes professional street wear and and may include lab coats. Interns are responsible for supplying their own lab coats if needed. COMPUTER ACCESS: Computer access is extremely important in this distance education program as many activities require group collaboration. All interns are required to have daily access to a computer, e-mail, and the Internet. We are currently using MSN Messenger as a chat room which can be obtained free of charge. MISCELLANEOUS COSTS: Most program materials will be provided at no charge to interns. However, there are several text books that are suggested or required and the cost of these are the responsibility of the interns. Cost of the 3 required texts is approximately $140 if purchased new. Generally there are hospital or college libraries that are available for interns' use. However, occasionally, articles must be purchased either through a library or online and the internship will pay any reasonable costs related to obtaining necessary articles. Interns are responsible for expenses associated with assigned projects and rotations (approximately $100-$150 total) unless there is money available from the practice site. Most assignments can be sent to the director
through e-mail, but Interns are responsible for payment of the ADA student membership fee (currently $43) prior to entering the Program, and any fees required for professional meetings and classes attended during the Program, unless otherwise specified by the Internship Director. Most professional meetings do have reduced student fees. INSURANCE: Interns are responsible for obtaining their own health and automobile insurance. INTERNS MUST PROVIDE PROOF OF THIS INSURANCE AND THE ADA AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP TO THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR UPON ENTERING THE PROGRAM. CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: Interns are responsible for the cost of doing a criminal background check, which Sodexo will complete. Cost varies depending on state and the number of places the intern has lived in the last 7 years. Average cost is about $60, but may be more or slightly less. PRE-PROGRAM PHYSICAL: The medical form must be completed and signed by a physician prior to entering the program. The medical form contains OSHA required immunizations and tests as well as a statement that the intern is medically cleared to participate in the program. Interns will not be able to begin their rotations until this form has been turned in. Cost of the medical examination and immunizations is the responsibility of the intern. PROOF OF ELIGIBILITY: Interns must provide proof of eligibility prior to the start of the Program in the form of a DPD Verification Statement from the DPD Director and an official copy of the final Transcript. Interns will not be able to begin their rotations without this form.
