We are pleased to be able to offer an international experience of up to 320 internship hours at a Sodexo account in Canada, Europe or Australia.  Two options for this rotation are available:

OPTION 1:  You will have the opportunity to work in one of our facilities in the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Ireland, or Wales).  You will be placed in a Sodexo facility for 120 hours of food service management and will work with our National Dietitian for the UK on a special project for your individual elective rotation hours.   This project will be determined in advance with the Internship Director and National Dietitian.  Up to 2 interns a year can be accommodated for this option.

OPTION 2:  You may choose to complete your international experience in another country provided that:

  • There is an appropriate Sodexo location to complete the food service management competencies in that country and appropriate preceptor in that location to supervise the experience
  • The location is safe according to US diplomatic standards for the intern to travel to and live in
  • Travel/Visa arrangements are feasible for a short stay in the country
  • Facility preceptors speak and read English
  • Communication between the Internship Director and preceptor is feasible and reasonable

CURRICULUM FOR THE INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE (320 hours total):

Food Service Management (120 Hours):  120 hours of the food service management rotation will be completed at a Sodexo healthcare facility in the United States and 120 hours at a Sodexo facility in the designated country.  Competencies and assignments to be accomplished at each facility are outlined on the food service management curriculum sheet approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic Association.

Individual Elective Rotation (200 Hours):  The intern will design an experience unique to his/her interests in the designated country.  This will give the intern an opportunity to explore an area of interest in the designated country, while furthering his/her knowledge and skills in the field of dietetics.  A proposal for this experience will be submitted to the Internship Director prior to beginning the international experience See Guidelines for Individual Elective Rotation for specific details regarding the two options available for interns completing the international experience.  NOTE:  In order to be incompliance with CADE's regulation of no more than 25% of supervised practice hours outside of the US, at least 10 of the hours in the rotation will have to be completed within the US.  This will be included as part of the proposal.
