COMPUTER MATCHING
THIS PROGRAM PARTICIPATES IN COMPUTER MATCHING. Applicants must also register online for computer matching through D&D Digital and select dietetic internship priority choices by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on February 15. There is a $50.00 computer matching fee paid to D&D Digital. Our matching code is 237 for all locations except Hawaii. If you are applying for Hawaii slots, the matching code is 228.

Internship Application Fee: In addition to the DICAS and D&D Digital application fees, we require an application fee, made out to SODEXO. The application fee is $50 if you are applying to EITHER the mainland slots OR the Hawaii slots. If you are applying for BOTH, the application fee is $75. If you apply for both mainland and Hawaii slots, your application will be reviewed independently for both matches. Therefore, you may be selected for both sites, and whichever code you listed first would be the site you would be matched to. PLEASE NOTE: This application fee is in addition to the DICAS fee and the D&D Digital fee.
Portfolio: We strongly encourage you to submit any additional information in the form of a portfolio that will help the committee to better evaluate your strengths, what you are like as person, and how well you will fit with this program. Be sure to include items/information that will give us examples of your leadership and self-direction. Examples of items you may want to include are: papers or projects completed for any of your classes, articles written by or about you, special projects completed at work or for volunteer organizations, special experiences, hobbies, or talents, certificates or awards. You may also include any additional recommendation letters that were not sent to DICAS. We are not looking for a large volume of materials, but we are looking for variety--demonstrating the breadth of your experiences. Be sure to explain each piece of the portfolio and why you included it. And we are looking for it to be presented in an easy to read format. It is difficult to review materials that are just clipped together or thrown in the package. Do not include documents you use but have not developed, ie intake forms or education materials you may have handed out at a health fair, but did not create.
We encourage you to be creative and to put your personality into the portfolio--this is different than the type of portfolio you would prepare for a class or a job interview. We do value creativity and a sense of humor.
We recommend that you submit an online portfolio, as it will save you paper and postage, and it will be easier for our selection committee to review. There are quite a few sites where you can develop and post your own website free of charge. A few of them are: webstarts.com, yola.com, web.com, and weebly.com. Make sure the site is easy to navigate. If you submit an online portfolio, put the link and any instructions under "Other Information and Comments" on the Application Cover Sheet, AND add the link to the supplemental materials on DICAS just above your answers to the 2 essay questions.
We will also accept a portfolio in the form of a binder, CD, DVD, or flashstick.
While we will not disqualify you if you do not include any additional materials, you need to be aware of the fact that we do use it in the initial screening and subsequent evaluation of the application. Your score will be affected by this and can mean the difference between making it into the group that will be interviewed and ranked or not. (In almost all past selection processes, NO ONE who did not submit portfolio materials scored high enough to receive an interview). The quality of the portfolio also tells us how interested you are in this internship.
IMPORTANT: Portfolio materials WILL NOT be returned. It is recommended that you keep your originals and put copies in your portfolio.

ONLINE CENTRALIZED APPLICATION--DICAS
- Application:hThis program is using the on-line centralized internship application, DICAS, which may be accessed at https://portal.dicas.org, e-mail .DICASinfo@DICAS.org The on-line application must be completed for our program by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on February 15, 2011. The fee to use DICAS is $40 for the first application submitted and $20 for each additional application. Be sure to fill in the work and volunteer sections on the application--this is what we use for your work experience score.
- Personal Statement: Applicants will be asked to complete a personal statement in 1,000 words or less. Questions to be addressed in the personal statement include:
- Why do you want to enter the dietetics profession?
- What are some experiences that have helped to prepare you for your career?
- What are your short-term and long-term goals?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses or areas needing improvement?
- Transcripts: Official Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended should be sent to: DICAS - Transcript Dept., PO Box 9118, Watertown, Ma 02472. FINAL OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS WILL BE REQUIRED OF ALL INTERNS MATCHED TO THE PROGRAM.
- Verification Statement or Declaration of Intent: This will be submitted to DICAS by your DPD program director. See instructions on the DICAS website. ORIGINAL VERIFICATION STATEMENT WILL BE REQUIRED OF ALL MATCHED INTERNS PRIOR TO BEGINNING THE PROGRAM.
- Recommendations: When completing the application form, applicants must include the name and contact information (specifically an e-mail address) for each reference. This will trigger an e-mail message requesting completion of a reference form. The form will be completed on-line. Students submitting more than one application will need to use the same individuals as references for each application.
- Supplemental Material: In addition to the standard personal statement above, we would like you to answer 2 essay questions. These are to be uploaded to the supplemental materials section of DICAS. Please keep your answers to no more than 2 pages total. Address each question separately. Examples you use DO NOT have to be work or school related. The questions are:
- Please describe a situation or experience that was rewarding for you and also describe a situation or experience that you feel has presented you with challenges. How did these experiences help you in your self-development?
- The second question is a little different. List 5 people you admire and 3-5 characteristics you admire about them, accompanied by a short paragraph explaining why you admire each person. People you admire can be personal friends, family, public figures, characters from a book, dead or alive. Either at the top or bottom of the page, indicate your preferred geographic locations
- If you have an online portfolio, put the link either at the top or bottom of the page so we can access it easily
